Why I’m Stepping Away from Facebook (and Creating More Space for Healing)

On June 1st, 2025, I had an epiphany.

I opened Facebook and Instagram and asked myself a question I had avoided for a long time: What am I still doing here? What once felt like a cosy corner to share photos, catch up with loved ones, and follow inspiring stories now feels like a cluttered hallway filled with strangers and noise.

When I looked at my friend list, I realised something. Yes, there were a handful of people I knew deeply — people I’d sat down with, shared coffees, laughter, or moments that stitched us together with memory. But many others had become like background noise. Lovely, at some point — people I’d hoped to connect with — but no longer part of my present.

At one time, Facebook and Instagram offered connection and community. I saw your projects, your kids’ birthdays, your wins and challenges. I watched from afar, cheering silently, scrolling endlessly. But slowly, I noticed something shift in me. I wasn’t feeling more connected. I was feeling drained, distracted — and sometimes, invisible.

As part of my healing journey, I’ve been clearing out more than just my home. I’ve donated clothes, let go of objects with stale energy, even made space in my fridge. And now, it’s time to declutter my digital space, too.

This isn’t about judgement or closing the door on anyone with bitterness. Quite the opposite. It’s about opening the door to more presence, fewer comparisons, and real, nourishing connections.

To those I truly love — you already know who you are — I’m still here. You’ll find me walking by the sea, replying to emails slowly, or maybe sending a voice note or a real postcard, just because.

And if I’ve disappeared from your feed, or you find I’m no longer visible, please don’t take it personally. It’s not about you. It’s about the version of me I’m stepping into. A version who needs less digital noise and more inner stillness.

This is part of my healing feeling.

With love and light,
